Americans going to college in the UK?

I'm interested in applying to a college overseas just to see if I could get in and try something extremely out of my comfort zone. I am fascinated with European culture and want to experience it firsthand. I was thinking of Glasgow, Cardiff, something similar to those? Are there any other suggestions? How difficult would it be to be accepted as a foreign student? And what about costs, I've heard although the tuition isn't extremely high the travel and living costs can be pricey.
