Should gang violence among teens be taken seriously?

i'm in high school and i was jumped by two mexican girls on friday. they didn't do any serious damage, because i'm a bigger girl. i chose not to fight back, only to block myself. as i was walking to the office, she told me if i "snitch, [her] girls are gonna jump you." i said okay, and continued to the office. her and her friends left campus for the rest of the day. i told the campus police my story, and she's suspended. my parents are proud, saying that i did the right thing. but should i worry about her threat? i can't defend myself any more than i had last time. i expressed my concerns to my parents, but they said not to worry. i witnessed firsthand a fight from her crowd in which a girl was left bloody on the floor. i'm scared, please help?
