Would you recommend the 2011 Jeep Liberty?

I'm thinking about getting one but am hoping to hear from people with them (the '11 model). I've read reviews online and some say they love it, some say they absolutely despise it, but I'd like to hear from some people firsthand. The gas mileage sucks, of course, but I want off-road capability--or rather, snow capability--and I like the cargo space from the folded down seats. I test drove it and thought the ride was fine, though I found the steering to be not as sensitive as I'd like. Overall, I liked it, but I'm concerned about mechanical issues just based off online reviews--but then again, a lot of them are from slightly older models, and I'm not sure whether Jeep has improved with the newer Liberties. So I guess my question would be, have you had mechanical problems--4x4 not working properly, etc? I know it's not the smoothest ride and the gas mileage sucks, so I'd really like to hear more about mechanical stuff than that, but any and all opinions are welcome and helpful as I try to decide what to buy :) I'm also looking at Escapes, but I like the Jeep's more rugged appearance and based on what I've read I think it's more off-road capable.
