What results have patients experienced from Deep Brain Stimulation for the treatment of Parkinson's Disease?

Would like to know firsthand reports ( positive and/or negative), of patients who have had this kind of surgery. Where is the surgery being done, who is doing it the most successfully? Are there treatments for Parkinson's Disease that are more effective and less risky than Deep Brain Stimulation? My step dad has been recommended for it, but has been told that once he has the DBS surgery, he cannot use the Ultrasound Bone Healing System he is prescribed for a fractured rotary cup in his right arm.
