I'm planning on getting a tattoo..?

I will be 18 in a couple of weeks and I am planning on getting a tattoo. I've been wanting to get one since I was younger so it was something I have thoroughly thought of. Not to mention, I'm glad I waited because I wanted stupid tattoos then, whereas now, the tattoo I chose has a deeper meaning. I already talked to the tattoo place and before I make my final decision, I have a few questions in mind. What do I need to know about getting a tattoo? How much does it hurt? What happens afterwards/aftercare? I already researched most of these numerous times, but an article's content isn't the same as firsthand experience. Any advice? interesting experiences? I'm all ears.
